The clouds on this scrapbook page can also be done on a handmade care as well. I used the new oval scallop punch for the clouds (out of the Occasions Mini Catalog)
Important tips:
Don't put too much ink on your sponge unless you want really dark clouds
Keep the scallop in porportion to the project
Don't stress if the clouds don't come out perfect, nature isn't perfect and each project will have a different look. That is what's so cool.
Here is the tutorial for the 12 x 12 page. If you would like the one for the card, leave a comment and I'll get it to you.
Sizzix Die – Scallop Circle pg. 197 of Spring/Summer Idea Book & Catalog
Ink up sponge
Tap around scallop circle
That begins your cloud. Note that I have used too much ink here. Use less ink for a more subtle look. You can alternate the look with light and darker variations to get desired look.
Next move scallop and repeat. Use the bottom of the scallop too.
It will look something like this when you are done.
Next I rubbed on the Tree and Remember When from the Bright Delights Rub Ons.
Then I lightly sponged Kiwi Kiss on the bottom of the page.
Next I rubbed on the owl from the Bright Delights Rub Ons, and put down the matting. Then I looked at the page and said. Wow. The clouds are pretty dark. I didn't like it.
I think I would have liked it better like the card. Using a smaller scallop would produce different size "clouds" as well and might have looked better.
Learn from my mistakes: Don't use too much ink and use different sized scallop "templates" to give a varied cloud look. You can also try differnet color combinations as well.
I popped in a picture of Chester to give you an idea what it looks like with a photo in there. The white space is for journaling or even another small picture. Since I'm not sure what picture I want to keep on this page I'm going to keep it blank.
So I still didn't like the page. I didn't want to waste money and start over. So….what do you do when you don't like how a page turned out? Fix the problem. There is no WRONG in scrapbooking, no MISTAKES in scrapbooking, I think of them as challenges and creative genius. Here is what I finally settled on. I'm going to dig into my old pictures and pull out a picture of Chester as a kitten and put it on the top mat.
